She then added a Wayeh grand puppy out of BIS BISS CH Vykons Jarva's True Colors ROM "Sherman" (himself a double Buffalo Bill great-grandson). See The Wayeh Story Beginnings & Photo Albums. These linebreedings and inbreedings set the foundation with which we started over. Liz & Sidney inherited Wayeh Kennels, and with that great start began again with the last intact Wayeh girls Summer & Hope, half sisters out of Justice (Summer's pedigree & Hope's pedigree). Summer (first in all things Malamute) finished with 3 majors and earned Wayeh's first working title, and Hope was still a working therapy dog at age 11 (RIP 12yo). AKC/INT CH Wayeh's Cherokee
Summer CGC WTD "Summer" When outcrossed to the incomparably sweet Rider (RIP 12yo) from Snow Song, Summer gave us Singer, Tom T., & Snowman. Singer is our third generation AKC/INT CH , and dam of working titled, obedience-titled, and AKC-mjr-ptd offspring. Tom T. was an IWPA regional bronze medalist his rookie year pulling 22x. Snowman (owned by Lynne Nappi/Summer Ice) was awarded the AMCA Flaming Flirt in obedience as highest scoring male that year, and is the world's first Rally-Champion, any breed, any kennel club 10/30/04. This outcrossed breeding (10-gen COI 1%) was an extreme outcross. Compare the two pedigrees (Summer & Rider), dog by dog, and you'll find until 1948 (and with the Exception of Tora & her son Polar) these two pedigrees are identical -- as most Malamute pedigrees are before the studbooks were opened and the Kotzebue, M'Loot & Hinman-Irwin lines were blended. In the 1950s, Summer's pedigree has some Canadian dogs that Rider's does not -- not that much of a difference in nearly 1000 unique ancestors. They both have the standard 1950s kennels of Husky-Pak, Sno-Pak, Roy-El, & Tigara. The 1960s saw many dogs in common. But this was the beginning of the split between the 2 pedigrees. By the 1970s Summer's pedigree was dominated by Uyak Buffalo Bill (T'Domar, Kodara, Karohunta) and his descendents through Tobe, Kiwaliks, & Vykon. In the 1970s Rider's pedigree was all about Glaciers Storm Kloud (North Wind, North Star, & Silver Sled) and his descendents through Sarges, Wild Winds & Mals-Abouts.
Hope, when bred to grandpa Cherokee (it's not an oops, its a surprise when you're as pleased as we are with Cherokee breeding at 11yo), gave us Faithy (owned by John & Dorothy Moyers/Wohali). This was another recombination of the old Wayeh genes.
We found another gorgeous outcross breeding (10-gen COI 5%) in Charles, the RWD at the 1998 National (and who just naturally sired two litters at 10yo), and he was bred to Faith to produce Storm (by the Moyers/Wohali), and then we bred him to Singer to produce Sunny & Maestro (co-owned by Lori Hicks/Masasyu, Charles' owner). This new pedigree encompasses all of the early Alaskan Malamutes now -- save a dog here and there in in the 1950s. We dipped back into a little Storm Kloud and a little Uyak through Kohoutec. The big addition were the Northeast & Barrenfield dogs (Inuit, Sena-Lak, Kotzebue, Tigara, Kanangnark).
We found a third outcross in Nikko whose sire was linebred Totem and whose dam is Charles' first cousin through Baylor/Nanuke. We bred Charles to Singer (dam of Sunny) to produce Sera-Nade. And then bred him to another outside bitch Mariah to produce Tori. (And went back and got Nikko's adult daughter Kayobi out of Rose of Sharon's Ruby Shoes.) Charles' cousin Nikko was more of the Northeast & Barrenfield dogs, with a hefty dose of Storm Kloud, Keikewabic, & Kasaan. Kayobi's dam is Rose of Sharon -- Chevelier, Strawberry Mtn, & some of the same dogs behind Black Ice -- Marlayne, Sendaishi. Also add in a little Uyak, a little Sno Ridge, and a return to Wakon for bone. And Tori's dam is Uyak, Uyak, Uyak, and a little Wakon for bone.
Black Ice -- We bought a bitch from Black Ice named Hannah Banana, OFA Excellent out of an OFA Excellent dam. (Black Ice is well known for working ability, correct structure, and gorgeous temperaments). Her sire was 11yo when she was born. with the natural breeding that says a lot about his health. We bred Luna (Nikko X Singer) to Hannah's Black Ice brother Charger, OFA Excellent, out of the same OFA Excellent dam Anya. Hannah & Charger add more Storm Kloud & Uyak again, but the new dogs were Tote-um, Oopik, Sendaishi & Marlayne. Hannah was then bred to Brady (below) to produce Pax. Her third litter was to Artic-Luv & Uyak's Yogi and gave us Boogie Bear...
Uyak -- We brought to Wayeh half-brother & -sister Yogi & Honey (out of Uyak Koyak Kip from Artic-Luv breedings) to go right back to the roots of Wayeh pedigrees -- concentrated Uyak Buffalo Bill through J-Len's & Kiwaliks. We've taken OFA Excellent Yogi to OFA Excellent Singer for Amak & the SONG litter and to Sunny (Charles X Singer) for Bright & the STAR litter. OFA Excellent Honey was bred to OFA Excellent Maestro for Kiowa & the BEAR litter, which has almost the same pedigree as the Star litter -- save for Honey & Yogi's dams, who were closely related.
Czech Republic -- take the best of the European pedigrees, mix in proven Storm Kloud and proven Nanook, filter these pedigrees through the tough European breeding wardens and you get the fabulous Brady -- pure sweetheart with absolutely correct structure. At 11m, he pulled down a reserve to an AKC 5-point major -- and did it out of coat -- because this boy can MOVE. We built an assortive mating pedigree based on the phenotype of Brady's dam Cora, his sire's dam Conny, Hannah and her dam Anya combined with flawless temperaments and correct movement. Their son Pax, out of the 60s Music litter, is a complete joy every minute of the day, never met a stranger, dog or human, and is always smiling.
Braiding -- Now we're combining Artic-Luv/Uyak & Black Ice in 2010. To start with, Yogi & Hannah produced Boogie (2 pups in the litter) and we're repeating the breeding in hopes of a girl. And we have plans to continue the combination with litters in 2010. Mystic-Wayeh Got To Keep On Dancin' "Boogie"
The point is building a kennel of bitches who share the same qualities of long-lived, linebred, working pedigrees that are outcrosses. We are selecting for temperament first and last, health (longevity), structure, working ability & then type -- and doing it with genetic diversity. Now we start braiding pedigrees based on outcrossed uncle X outcrossed niece breedings out of half-sibs. |
